On August 5, Jin10 reported that the Texas House of Representatives today passed a motion authorizing the Speaker to issue civil arrest warrants to detain Democratic lawmakers who did not attend a special session. Dozens of Democratic lawmakers collectively left Texas yesterday in an attempt to block the congressional redistricting plan. The motion specifically authorizes "the sergeant-at-arms or their designated officials to bring back all members who are absent without approval, in order to ensure their attendance at the meeting when necessary based on the arrest warrant." The motion was ultimately passed with 85 votes in favor and 6 against, with Speaker Dustin Burrows announcing the voting results. As of the time of publication, the Texas governor has ordered the arrest of Democrats who fled the state.
