According to a report from Jin10, on July 14, after SpaceX prepared to invest $2 billion in xAI, Musk stated that Tesla plans to hold a shareholder vote on whether to invest in xAI. In response to a post on X, Musk said that any decision to support xAI ultimately isn't one he can make. Last year, Musk publicly asked X users whether Tesla should invest $5 billion in xAI, at which time he wrote that he was just testing the waters. However, he stated then that Tesla's board and supporters needed to give the green light for this decision. Tesla disclosed in April that xAI was a customer of Tesla last year, and the business, consulting, and support agreements signed with Tesla resulted in expenditures of $188.3 million. Most of this transaction ($191 million) involved xAI purchasing Tesla's utility-scale energy storage battery, Megapack.
