Cosmos summarizes the first 6 months of 2025, temporarily halting the EVM plan on the Hub.

On July 16, Interchain Labs and the Interchain Foundation announced the summary of the first 6 months of the "new Cosmos". Since the beginning of 2025, Cosmos has undergone a significant leadership change, establishing Interchain Labs and unifying the Cosmos Stack, Cosmos Hub, and the ecosystem under a common direction.

Highlights:

• Dozens of new projects have launched on Cosmos or transitioned to mainnet such as Ripple EVM Sidechain, Ondo, Babylon, TAC, Tether, Neutron, Coreum, Stride, etc.
• Cosmos expands IBC connectivity to Ethereum, Starknet, XRP, and Bitcoin through IBC Eureka.
• Major update for Cosmos Stack: IBC v2, SDK v0.53, open-source Cosmos EVM, improved system-wide security.

Adjustment Strategy:

• Cosmos has decided to temporarily suspend the deployment of EVM virtual machines directly on Cosmos Hub, due to high costs and the risk of affecting user experience.
• Instead, focus on developing Cosmos Hub as a cross-chain service hub, providing services such as IBC Eureka, oracle, and CEX connectivity for Layer-1.
• The Cosmos EVM L1 stack will continue to develop, supporting independent chains that want to deploy EVM.

Upcoming Roadmap:

• In the last 6 months of the year, Cosmos will refine its long-term product strategy, continue to experiment and build infrastructure to serve Web2 and Web3 organizations.
• IBC Eureka is still prioritized for development as a core service.

Cosmos confirms that it still plays a central role of ATOM and Cosmos Hub in the ecosystem, continuing to support projects that have collaborated and opening up new directions for the entire ecosystem to develop together.
