The Czech Minister of Justice resigned due to the handling of a scandal involving drug dealers donating Bitcoin, with funds amounting to nearly 45 million dollars.
On June 1, Cointelegraph reported that Czech Justice Minister Pavel Blazek announced his resignation following a scandal involving his department's handling of Bitcoin. The Bitcoin in question has a market capitalization of nearly 45 million dollars and was originally donated by a convicted drug dealer. The Czech Ministry of Justice stated that nearly 500 coins were auctioned off to raise almost 1 billion Czech koruna (approximately 45 million dollars). These funds were originally intended to promote the digitalization of the justice system, combat drug use in prisons, and improve housing conditions for prison guards, among other projects. However, the source of this crypto asset is Tomas Jirikovsky, who is the criminal behind the "Sheep Marketplace," a notorious dark web platform known for selling illegal goods.
