The U.S. Senate plans to hold the final vote on the GENIUS Act, which aims to create a comprehensive regulatory framework for stablecoins, on June 17.
It was stated in the announcement that the date was set for June 17, but the exact time would be determined later in consultation with the Senate Democratic Leader by the Majority Leader.
If the bill passes the Senate, it will be sent to the House of Representatives for the next vote.
The bill requires that stablecoins be fully backed by US dollars or similar liquid assets. It also aims to create a legal framework for them by mandating annual audits for issuers with a market capitalization over $50 billion and by adding compliance guidelines for foreign issuers.
US President Donald Trump had previously stated in his announcement that he wanted to pass stablecoin legislation by August.
