Sony launches Soneium Layer-2 network to layout Web3 ecosystem
Sony's Layout in the Web3 Ecosystem: In-Depth Analysis of Soneium Layer-2 Network
Sony Group, as a globally renowned tech giant, has recently officially entered the blockchain field. The company has launched an Ethereum Layer-2 network called Soneium, aimed at creating an open and interconnected Web3 ecosystem for creators.
Soneium is an Ethereum Layer-2 solution jointly developed by Sony and Startale Labs. Startale Labs was involved in building Japan's largest public chain, Astar Network. Soneium is built on the OP Stack and has completed integration with the Optimism Superchain.
Currently, Soneium has launched the Minato testnet and initiated the Spark incubation program to provide financial and technical support for ecological projects. In just half a month, more than 60 projects have announced that they will develop or integrate on Soneium.
These projects cover multiple areas including SocialFi, GameFi, RWA, DeFi, NFT, etc. Among them are:
In addition, well-known cross-chain bridge projects such as Chainlink, Layerswap, and Orbiter Finance have also stated that they will support the Soneium network.
As a Web2 giant, Sony has over 900 million device users globally, spanning across digital media fields such as film, music, and gaming. The launch of Soneium marks Sony's official entry into the Web3 ecosystem, which is expected to attract the attention of a large number of mainstream users.
However, the current Layer-2 track has become highly competitive. Whether Soneium can stand out among numerous L2 solutions will require time to validate. Currently, the network has not launched a native token, but there are several early projects worth paying attention to. As the ecosystem continues to improve, Soneium is expected to become an important bridge connecting Web2 and Web3.
