5.38 billion user information suspected of being leaked, social platform responds that it has blocked the vulnerability.
Recently, a piece of news regarding the leakage of user information from social media platforms has attracted widespread attention. It is reported that a large amount of user data is being sold on the dark web, including 538 million user information records, of which 172 million contain basic account information, priced at about 0.177 Bit. This information covers various aspects such as user ID, the number of posts, number of followers, number of accounts followed, gender, and geographical location.
In response, the security chief of the social platform stated that the leaked phone numbers were illegally obtained in 2019 through the contact upload interface, while other public information was scraped from the internet.
The person in charge further explained: "In the data breach incident that occurred in 2019, we immediately took measures to close the loophole after discovering anomalies internally. We reported the case to the police at the first opportunity and submitted the relevant evidence to the law enforcement department. At the same time, we have been continuously tracking down the criminals selling this information online. The privacy and security of users is extremely important, especially when it involves sensitive information like mobile phone numbers."
This incident has once again raised concerns about personal information security and reminds major platforms of the need to continually strengthen data protection measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
