Visa manager: Crypto credit cards made payment volume easier!
The integration of traditional payment cards with cryptocurrency exchanges plays a crucial role in the adoption of digital assets, according to a Visa executive.
Speaking to Cointelegraph reporter Ezra Reguerra during a panel at the Blockchain Economy Dubai Summit, Visa's executive vice president and head of innovation and design, Akshay Chopra, highlighted the role Visa cards have played as a bridge between fiat and cryptocurrencies in recent years.
According to Chopra, using cryptocurrencies as a means of payment for everyday items, such as a cup of coffee at a cafe, is still not common. To overcome this challenge, Visa partnered with 75 of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in 2021, allowing them to issue Visa cards.
In this way, a network of approximately 80 million Visa merchants was created that can serve customers who prefer to use cryptocurrency as a means of payment. Chopra told Reguerra:
Building this bridge in 2021 alone, the figures of which have not yet been made public, facilitated a payment volume of $ 3 billion.
Chopra highlighted this as one of several opportunities for traditional financial institutions to leverage the broader Web3 ecosystem.
