The French government is expected to use Article 49.3 of the Constitution to pass the social security bill without a parliamentary vote.
According to French TV station LCI, French Prime Minister Philippe will use constitutional tools to push through parts of his unpopular budget bill without a parliamentary vote. Later on Monday, Philippe may announce at the National Assembly that he will use Article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows for the passage of social security bills without a vote, but also opens the door to a motion of no confidence. The National Rally, led by Le Pen, is the largest party in the lower house and could ensure the current government's downfall. Earlier on Monday, Philippe made a final concession in an attempt to gain Le Pen's support. Le Pen called on Prime Minister Philippe to agree to the demands of her party to link pensions to inflation in order to avoid condemnation.
