The PMI data shows that due to continued demand and strong recruitment in December, India's dominant service sector reached a four-month high by the end of 2024, while inflationary pressures eased. The final value of the December service PMI rose from 58.4 in November to 59.3, the highest since August, but lower than the initial estimate of 60.8. The industry has been expanding for over three years. The new business activity index, which measures demand, rose at the fastest pace in four months. Strong global demand has also provided support. High demand and expanded capacity have boosted confidence for the coming year. HSBC economists pointed out, 'Forward-looking indicators such as new business and future activity suggest that this strong performance may continue in the near future'.
